Social Inclusion in Derry/Londonderry
Our aim is to promote the benefits of new technology to disadvantaged groups across the Foyle area. In particular, the project will focus on assisting those people from the DE social categories to access digital technology so that they may improve their life opportunities and experiences and actively participate in their community. The project will work in partnership with individuals and communities to develop cohesion and sustainability in needs led programmes’.
It is anticipated that over the next three years, EverybodyOnline will reach over 1,800 disadvantaged individuals in the Foyle area through ICT based sessions, courses and projects and by developing effective community partnerships and signposting abilities.
Given the diversity of groups and individuals belonging to this particular socio-economic group in Derry/Londonderry, it is anticipated that the key areas of work will focus on:
• Ethnic minorities
• Women’s groups
• Young peoples groups
• Rural communities
• Ex-offenders
• Intergenerational work
In Derry/Londonderry, participants can expect to gain access to a range of informal computer and Internet taster sessions that will be delivered in a community setting. These will include advice and support on using Internet and email, web cams and digital cameras, online shopping and banking, parenting, intergenerational work or any other areas of interest proposed by them.
In addition, it is anticipated that such sessions will also encourage social interaction and help to open the minds of individuals to new possibilities and experiences that will contribute to a more digitally and socially inclusive society.
